You have started glancing in the mirror; the reflection is not what you recall (or desire). In this situation, you may have begun considering all the possibilities for revitalizing your young appearance. Perhaps you have tried facials, creams, and cosmetic treatments but have not seen the desired results and are wondering what your next steps should be. Depending on your aspirations, a facelift may help you achieve your cosmetic objectives. Talk to a plastic surgeon in San Diego today to learn more.

    What is a facelift?

It is reasonable to say that practically everyone has heard of or knows someone who has undergone a facelift. Although the concept of facelifts is well-known, not everyone understands exactly what a facelift treatment comprises. A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical operation to enhance and minimize obvious indications of aging on the face and neck. Facelifts treat typical skin concerns associated with aging, such as:

    • Fold lines between the mouth and nose
    • Sagging facial skin
    • Loose skin and excess fat around the neck (sometimes referred to as a double chin or “turkey neck”)
    • Jowls

    Advantages of a facelift

If you turn on the television, you will almost certainly see someone with a facelift. In various instances, the surgery caused them to appear noticeably different than before. Many people are understandably anxious about how a facelift would affect their looks. While it is true that a facelift may (and almost certainly will) change your look, the advantages are typically very positive.

    • Facelifts address many signs of aging in a single procedure.

The normal aging process causes numerous changes in the look and texture of the skin. In addition to aging, UV damage, smoking, and stress can all negatively affect the skin. Facelifts can help you seem younger by addressing numerous indicators of aging, resulting in a tighter appearance of the neck and face. A facelift can treat drooping skin, wrinkles extending from the mouth to the chin, deep wrinkles and creases between the mouth and nose, a double chin, and excess fat in one treatment.

    • A facelift might help you get rid of your double chin.

If you are unhappy with the excess skin or fat that has developed around your neck, a facelift may help to minimize or even eradicate it. Neck skin sagging and wrinkles are a natural part of aging. Sadly, depending on the amount of folding or wrinkling, this additional skin can make you look much older than you are and cause embarrassment or pain while wearing apparel that exposes the neck area. A facelift and neck lift can address these difficulties by tightening and removing extra skin.
